The First Chiropractic Visit
By ProMatcher Staff
What to Expect from Your First Visit to the Chiropractor
1. Paperwork This step may begin before you even arrive at the office. You will likely need to fill out a number of patient forms. Some times, they are available on the doctor’s website. It may be easier to print them at home and fill them out ahead of time.
2. Consultation Typically, the chiropractor will ask about your health history and current symptoms. The doctor can learn about you and your reasons for seeking his or her services. During this step, you may discuss your goals and expectations after treatment.
3. Examination and Diagnostic Studies Next, the chiropractor will perform a physical evaluation (with your consent). Typically, he or she will test your reflexes, flexibility, and posture in addition to checking the alignment of your spine. If necessary, a diagnostic study, like an X-ray, may be performed.
4. Diagnosis After the consultation and examination, the chiropractor will likely provide a diagnosis or an explanation of your symptoms. If no diagnosis is made, the chiropractor may refer you to another specialist or order additional diagnostic testing.
5. Treatment Plan After a diagnosis is made, the chiropractor will likely create a treatment plan with your permission. The plan should include details about the recommended treatment and the expected timeline. During this time, you should ask questions and express any concerns you may have. In most cases, treatment will not begin immediately but during a follow-up appointment.
