What is Whole Body Cryotherapy?
By ProMatcher Staff
What can Whole Body Cryotherapy do for me?
Traditional cryotherapy involved the use of ice packs and cold compresses to relieve back and neck pain. Today, Whole Body Cryotherapy is used to treat a variety of symptoms from muscle and joint pain to depression and anxiety. It has also been used to treat rheumatism, fibromyalgia, and inflammation. Athletes may use cryotherapy to fight fatigue and soreness, which allows them to recover faster from injury.
What can I expect?
Whole Body Cryotherapy uses gasiform liquid nitrogen to lower the temperature of the patient’s skin by 30-50 degrees F for a very short amount of time. The therapy will either take place in a cryosauna (for one person) or a cryochamber (for up to three people). Before entering the sauna or chamber, the person will be instructed to wear some protective clothing, such as underwear, socks, and gloves. Upon entering, the body is exposed to temperatures ranging from -180° F to -280 ° F. Each session should last no more than 3 minutes so the body’s core temperature does not trop. This extreme, dry cold triggers the release of endorphins and kickstarts the body’s natural healing process.
Am I a good candidate for treatment?
Whole Body Cryotherapy is not recommended for pregnant women, people with heart conditions, young children, people who suffer from seizures, or people with high blood pressures.
